snow day

On Thursday it iced everything over and Friday it snowed.  All. day. long.  Not only did they cancel school again but Rich got a call early in the morning telling him that work was canceled!  We had an easy going morning and then decided to brave the weather to visit Grandma's house and play with BenSam and Anna.  Toward the end of the day we decided to let the boys play in the snow.  They all had a blast!
They enjoyed playing on the frozen trampoline too!
This is perhaps my favorite picture of the day.
It was a perfect end to January.  We're keeping warm indoors today and waiting to see if church is canceled tomorrow!!

And I got my camera back!  Hooray!

ice day

Today school was canceled due to the ice storm that rolled into town.  When I woke up this morning to fairly mild temperatures and not an ounce of precipitation I thought they were insane (especially since they called at 5:45am!  Don't they know I'm sleeping?)  But by mid-morning I understood.  Everything is covered in ice and snow.  There's supposed to be several inches of snow tonight and tomorrow--so no school again.  Today the boys and I had a greatest time hanging out.  We wore our jammies all day, played around, and even watched a movie (Beethoven) while sitting in the tent and eating popcorn.  I'm still camera-less... but I took a few pictures with my phone.  Now I just have to figure out how to get them onto my computer!

the tale of some wonderful books

I believe it was last Christmas that my dad gifted us with the complete set of The Original Peter Rabbit Books by Beatrix Potter. William and I have enjoyed reading them together and this afternoon we finished reading the last few!  We loved some and endured others but as a whole they were wonderful.  In fact, when we finished the last book (Cecily Parsley's Nursery Rhymes) William asked if we could read them over again now.  And I just love her illustrations.
I think everyone knows The Tale of Peter Rabbit and maybe a few other of her characters (especially if you've seen the movie Miss Potter) but she actually had quite a number of books... 23 to be exact.  If you haven't read them--you should!

A few weekends ago I left my camera out in Broken Arrow while visiting Rich's brother, Bob, and his family.  I'm going crazy without it... so my posts may be few and far between until I get it back.

and the thunder rolls...

Last week Rich was able to take William to an OKC Thunder game (thanks to our friend Larry who gave us the tickets!)  (James was supposed to go but ended up sick that day... poor sick James!)  Rich told me that William had the time of his life!  And I believe it... he came home so excited about everything!  The next day William told Rich he wanted to play basketball... but what he really wanted was for James and Rich to play so that he could cheer!  I think that the Thunder have found themselves a lifelong fan!

report card

It's that time of year... time for report cards.   William did great--as I expected he would.  I looked at the expectations for next semester.  I'm pretty sure he can do all of those as well.  The only things that he got a "P" in ("progressing--skill not mastered but developing") were following school procedures and listening attentively.  I was expecting this as well since, it turns out, he is quite the social little guy.

a reason of the hope

Just wanted to share with you something that I'm beyond excited about.  My dear friends, Lori and Wes, have started a new blog.  Lori explains the background here.  Their lives and their faith are an inspiration to me... so I look forward to a regular dose of their words every Sunday.

adding some spice to January

I'm trying to stay out of a funk this January... but it is so darn cold right now!  We hung snowflakes in the kitchen which brighten things up a bit.  William tells me that it's snowing in the house.  (And you just can't go wrong when the snowflakes are 4 for 25 cents!)

On Monday, for Family Night, we went to Rich's company "Shoot the Tube" event down at the ballpark.  We didn't think we'd actually get the boys to get into the tubes--but they went over and over again!

This was the only decent picture that I got of the whole thing.  It was William's first time down.

That night was a frigid 28 degrees but that didn't stop the boys from having a blast.  (For the past two days, on the way to school, William talks about it the whole way.  He thinks we're going again sometime soon.)  Despite the warm (free!) food and hot chocolate my body never did warm up.  My toes were icicles! I think I'd actually agree with the boys though... it was fun.  I'd go again in a heartbeat.  But I think I'd dress a little warmer next time!
