One

A happy happy birthday to my little Henry Jacob.  I can't believe it's already been a year since he came to us--my easiest birth and my easiest baby.  He is such an easy-going, happy baby who is getting bigger every day. I gave Henry his first haircut yesterday while I was cutting everyone's hair and it's sad that his little baby curls are gone now.

look at those soft baby curls!

He really did need a haircut... see how long his hair was!

No more curls!  He's a big boy now!

He'll eat any food that you give to him (except spinach) and will let you know that he wants more now.  And he is starting to walk like a pro--he can take about 4 steps before sitting down.

He also learned to come down the stairs (hallelujah!) and slides down them faster than you can believe.

Henry has been stealing milk from Alexander's sippy cups for a few months now and is excited that he can finally have his own cup of milk (rather than water).  He's also got a sweet tooth...

That is one yummy ice cream cone

And he really has a thing for books... or anything made of paper really!

This little Henry-boy has been such a sweet addition to our family.  Happy birthday big one year old!

What we've been up to: Part I

We have now been in North Carolina for nearly a month... and it has flown by.  We have been incredibly busy!  I've been trying to keep a balance of doing the things that need to be done (unpacking, organizing, deep cleaning, etc) and some fun summer things.  So besides still unpacking here is a rundown of some of the fun things we have been up to.

The first week or so that we were here was intermittently rainy.  So while the boys were stuck inside they found a good use for all of the boxes I was unpacking--they made themselves a house.  William even got the scissors and made doorways and tunnels for them.  I was quite impressed with his ingenuity!

When it isn't rainy the boys are outside.  In Oklahoma I had to beg William to head outside for 5 minutes but it seems that there are some days now that I hardly see the boys at all!  In fact, it's usually the first thing they ask to do in the morning!  The first few days here they played together outside making up "ninja training" obstacle courses for each other.

William and James also taught themselves to (finally) swing!

Now they are outside with their friends playing all sorts of games together.  There are a ton of little boys on our street and they spend all day running from one house to another playing nicely together.  I love it!  They are all nice boys and are inclusive of even the little kids like Alexander.  And they love Henry.  Sometimes they even try to include Henry in their games... like the other day when they tried to have Henry hide with them during hide and seek.  Henry decided he doesn't like to be included in that game although I'm sure he wishes I'd let him outside with the big kids more often!

We also have a neighborhood pool that we try to swim at a few times a week.  William is getting more confident, Alex a little more brave (he doesn't cling to me like he used to) and Henry, I'm afraid is going to be a little daredevil like his big brother James.  Henry learned that he can sit on the edge of the pool and "jump" in. James is a little fish.  He is always doing cannonballs, putting his head in the water and is actually getting good at using his arms and legs to get around the pool.

We've also had to check out some of the stores around us.  One Tuesday we drove down to Ikea so I could look around and then we all ate lunch since kids ate free!  The boys also love to go to the grocery store by our house and squeeze into the awesome shopping carts...

One day we stopped by the store to pick up just a few things.  It was barely sprinkling and I didn't think anything of it. We couldn't have been in there for more than 20 minutes.  By the time we left the store I was running to the car in puddles past my ankles!  It was insane!

Well, this post is getting long... and it's getting late.  And I've only covered half of what we've been up to... so I will finish another time!

Catch Up: Road Trip!

Saturday morning, after a quick stop in Edmond to say goodbye to Rich's family, we were off!  We had about 18 hours and over 1,000 miles ahead of us.  The boys did surprisingly well the entire trip!

It could have something to do with backpacks full of activities and my secret stash hidden up front.  We hardly pulled out movies or electronics the entire 3 days!  Or it may have something to do with finally having time with this guy:

Either way, it made this mom very happy.

Sunday afternoon we needed some running around time... and Rich needed a little nap... so we stopped at a playground for a while.  The boys had a blast.

And staying in a hotel is always a treat.  This little boys were ready to get out of the car--and then they turned into monkeys!

That night we settled in for a short show and headed off to bed.

And Monday morning we set off on the last leg of our trip!  Hooray!

Welcome to North Carolina!!

Our house wasn't quite ready (the painters and carpet guys were doing their best to finish up before the movers came on Tuesday) so we stayed the night in Rich's little apartment.  Tuesday morning the movers showed up and we started to get settled in our new home!  The boys have already made good friends with all the boys on our street--all day long they are hopping from one house to the next!  I love it!  We are really enjoying our time here so far--everyone is super friendly and welcoming which makes it just a little bit easier.  We have done a lot of fun things as well... which I'll save for the next post!

Catch Up: Last visit to the library

The day before we left we took our final trip to our beloved library.  Alex, Henry, and I participated in Mother-Goose-on-the-Loose--one of our favorite activities--while the older boys looked at books and played in the children's area.

We will miss our fantastic librarian who made everyone feel welcome.  And we will miss how homey our tiny little library was.  We will especially miss all the friends that we made there.  If they ever get to missing us they can just visit the children's room--William has left his legacy there.

Catch Up: Last Baseball game!

Once we found out that we were moving we decided that our plans for William to be in baseball this year would be put on hold.  It would be just too much to take him to practices, games, and watch the little boys by myself.  Some friends found out and really wanted William to be on the team.  They offered to take him to games, practices, whatever would help... so we decided to do it.  The fun thing about this team was that it was a combination between his t-ball team from last year and his school buddies that he's know since pre-K.

Rich was so sad that he wasn't able to make it to any of the games--but Grandpa and Lisa were able to come watch his last game.  And I even was able to capture William's awesome hit on video!  (The reason that he's confused is because the ball hit the pitching machine and he wasn't sure if he was out or not!)

The whole team was so sweet and signed a baseball to give to William and the other moms made sure that we got some team pictures as well.

Kneeling: Nolan, Jake, Walker, Brady  Standing: Colt, Corbin, Garrett, William, Conner, ___, Jericho

The same friends who took William to practices and games brought some treats for after the game... a sort of "farewell to William" party.  It was so sweet.

It was fun to watch William with his friends and see his excitement while playing.  I'm so grateful for the friends who made it possible for William to have such a great experience!  This was a perfect way for William to say goodbye to his friends.

Catch Up: Alexander turns 3!

Friday Alexander turned 3!  We decided to wait to open presents until the next day when Rich was there (since he has already missed James' birthday a few months prior).  I still wanted to make the day special.  While the big boys were at school and before we went to our weekly "Mother Goose on the Loose" at the library I took him on a special date to get a donut.

For dinner he requested mac 'n' cheese and some fruit to which I happily obliged.

Alexander is not much of a cake eater and I didn't want a ton of cake just lying around the house.  Besides, all my cake pans were packed. (It seems we are always moving right around Alex's birthday!)  So we came up with something that I knew everyone would be on board for...

He seemed to like the idea.

Last year Alex only had one big candle to blow out because the birthday candles were packed... and this year was no different.  Maybe next year he'll get to blow out more than one candle!

Saturday morning we opened his presents--always one of the best parts of birthdays!

Thor's hammer was easily the favorite gift... Rich is a genius.

Alexander continues to be my sweet, helpful, orderly boy.  We are so glad that he's three!  (And we can't forget it either--he reminds me several times a day, "I'm 3!  I'm big!"  Now if we could just get him potty trained!)

Catch Up: Brisket at the Barn

Phew!  Did you make it through all my wordy, picture-filled California posts?  Good for you!

Wednesday morning we flew back to Oklahoma and didn't arrive until way after bedtime.  Lucky for me the next day was Brisket at the Barn!  (Happy Anniversary to me!) I'm so glad that we were able to make it to one of our favorite town events one last time and say good-bye to friends.
